Beyond welcoming and introducing people to dance, the BLOCK project includes a strong participatory dimension, notably through the creation of a festive event celebrating dance in all its forms, the Fête de la Danse.
A CCN “talent factory”
BLOCK will contribute to the development of hip-hop dance education in the community with regular classes for amateurs, children and adults, and young professionals, as well as workshops, “street camps,” and more. The BLOCK aims to become a talent incubator by drawing on young people in the area to introduce them to cultural professions.
A CCN shared with artists
BLOCK will support five artistic teams over three years (Artist Associate program), La Fougue, Lignes urbaines, Compagnie Relevant, Les Alchimistes, and IAAL, who will actively participate in awareness-raising and training activities led by the CCNR. More local companies will be supported thanks to La Base, a shared production and distribution unit.

Step inside Le BLOCK · Centre Chorégraphique National de Rillieux-la-Pape!
We want audiences to be able to attend warm-ups, work sessions, open rehearsals and encounters with the dancers and associated artists of Le BLOCK throughout the year.
WOMEN OF THE BLOCK
November 2025 – July 2026
A committee of local women, women and mothers from Rillieux-la-Pape, integrated into Le BLOCK
Facilitator: Habiba Zaouali
Le BLOCK invited around twenty women and mothers from the Velette neighbourhood in Rillieux-la-Pape to take an active part in its local outreach project.
They now form a committee of local women, fully integrated into the life and actions of Le BLOCK.
This group takes part in events organised across the territory, contributes to the choice of communication materials aimed at local residents, and participates in the selection committee for artistic companies hosted in residence.
Le BLOCK also invites them to meet twice a month for a dance and well-being workshop with Habiba, encouraging expression, conviviality and social connection.
Habiba Zaouali, from Cie She’ mères, works on socio-cultural projects connected to working-class neighbourhoods. Her aim is to transmit beyond social, cultural and generational prejudice, and to fight inequalities and discrimination.
For Habiba, dance is a tool for introspection. It allows each person to rebuild, rise and grow. Through dance, everyone is capable of challenging their beliefs and moving beyond prohibitions and psychological resistance, in order to discover the value of movement as something that soothes, awakens and reconciles.

Hip-hop demonstrations for schools

To introduce urban dances to as many people as possible, we invite schools to take part in a hip-hop demonstration, followed by a collective practice session at Le BLOCK. A great opportunity to share a convivial moment around dance.

LE BLOCK, TALENT FACTORY
October 2025 – July 2026
Students from Camus-Sermezat high school prepare for the national UNSS Hip-hop championship.

This year, Le BLOCK is supporting 15 students from Lycée Camus-Sermezat in Rillieux-la-Pape, enrolled in the UNSS Hip-hop option, as they prepare for the national championship bringing together 16 academies.
Guided by professional dancers, they benefit from an advanced training cycle that allows them to refine their technique and develop their creativity.
Through this project, Le BLOCK confirms its commitment to young talent and its desire to support their artistic development and professional growth.

SCHOOL FLOW
March – May 2026
All pupils from the five REP schools in Rillieux-la-Pape dive into hip-hop culture.
Facilitators: Noussair Ousseni aka Bostii and two dancer-choreographers from Compagnie Relevant
Flow des Écoles invites pupils from Year 1 to Year 6 across five schools in the Rillieux-la-Pape Priority Education Network, Mont-Blanc, Alagniers, Velette, Semailles and Charmilles, to discover hip-hop dance and breaking.
In total, Flow des Écoles brings together nearly 300 pupils. The project combines artistic practice workshops, more theoretical sessions exploring the history of hip-hop, and special encounters with companies associated with or hosted in residence at Le BLOCK · CCNR.
A shared theme connects all the schools: the evolution of hip-hop dance from the 1970s to today. Each school represents a specific period, creating a collective historical and artistic journey.
Through this exploration, the project aims to transmit the values of hip-hop and encourage cohesion, respect and living together.

WORKSHOPS AT THE ROMANS FERRARI CENTRE

Teenagers with severe burns or multiple trauma are introduced to hip-hop dance.
Facilitators: Noussair Ousseni aka Bostii and Marwan Kadded, dancer-choreographer with Compagnie Relevant
Two groups of middle and high school students from the Roman Ferrari rehabilitation centre in Miribel, specialised in supporting teenagers with severe burns or multiple trauma, will be introduced to hip-hop dance.
From May 22 to July 2, 2026, over the course of seven dance workshops, the centre’s students will create a choreography inspired by Joga Bonito, adapted to their disabilities. In a convivial atmosphere, the project aims to transmit the collective values of hip-hop and encourage participants to reconnect with their bodies and their self-image. A presentation of the workshops will take place on July 2 at 6:30 pm, ahead of the performance of Joga Bonito.
