Bugger
2018/2021
Flowers crack concrete / Bugger is an invitation to step out of the self and find the other, to cross the boundaries that separate us. Because dance is above all an encounter.
From Flowers crack concrete…
Since 2018, Flowers crack concrete has been a fully-fledged participatory creation. Its choreographer Yuval Pick and the dancers of his company transmit it to groups of amateur or trainee performers of all ages and backgrounds. An in situ piece suitable for theaters and outdoor spaces not dedicated to dance, Flowers crack concrete questions our sense of belonging to a group and to a common space, as a place of convergence and difference.
To Bugger
Commissioned by the Conservatoire National Supérieur Musique et Danse (CNSMD) de Paris for the 55 dancers in the preparatory and DNSPD contemporary programs, Bugger is a response to our primary, indeed primitive, need to interact and connect with others. As social mammals, we instinctively seek contact with others; a direct connection, without intermediary.
Acting as a conduit, Yuval Pick aims to help the students of CNSMD Paris – and through them, a whole new generation of dancers – become spokepersons for all. Together, they construct dance as a shared space that is heterogenous, complex, fertile and moving.
Created using choreographic material from his piece Flowers Crack Concrete, Bugger invites us to head into the unknown, come out of ourselves to find others, and cross the borders that separate us; because dance is, first and foremost, an encounter.
