After studying classical dance in Brussels, Julie Bougard entered the Arts Educational Schools in London where she trained in contemporary dance. She danced in pieces by Joanne Leighton, Thierry Smits, Jan Lauwers, Alain Platel, Sasha Waltz, Bud Blumenthal and Nadine Ganase. In addition to her personal artistic work, she has worked with choreographers Thomas Lebrun since 2005 and Ayelen Parolin since 2019.
Julie Bougard proposes an initiation to the Release technique, a research around the release of the weight and its distribution in the various supports. Release involves work on breathing, alignment, opening of the joints, muscle relaxation and the use of gravity and momentum to facilitate movement.
"The transfer of weight defines all movement. By my weight, I know where I am, where I am going. The weight of my body is the common link, the universal language of gravitation.
Balance - Unbalance
Verticality - Horizontality
Endurance - Rhythm
The course is a technical training, it is a setting in conscience of its body, its weight. Support, coordination, breath, sequencing... so many notions that lead to the discovery of weight in a danced practice."
