“Break the system to go elsewhere, break to be reborn.”
Breaking away is a recurring event that punctuates our existence. Let’s go back to our origins: birth. When we come into the world, a rupture occurs as we leave our mother’s body. This is our first physical separation, the severing of the umbilical cord that connects us. Then, throughout our lives, we face ruptures, whether friendly, sentimental or linked to the loss of a loved one.
The number of artists who have been inspired to create by the break-up of love is considerable. These include Marina Abramović, who ends her relationship on the Great Wall of China, Tracey Emin, who exposes her break-up in her installation My bed, and Jordan Tiberio, who images bodies that have almost disappeared. All in all, break-ups are an omnipresent subject in life as well as in various artistic fields.
Three friends meet on a hilltop at midnight. Cradled in the cool of the night, the stars reveal themselves in the sky. Heads erect, eyes wide open, the music resonates in this space, taking us from one side to the other. One subject leads to another, without reflection, without awareness. And so we are, children of our generation, where the choice and decision to break up do not frighten us or stand in our way. As observers of the inner generation, we stand up to the walls that society has built up over time.
