Practice

PRACTICE BY YUVAL PICK: The artist’s vision, inspiration, philosophy and method

Practice is the method I have been developing for several years that nourish my dance and dance pieces andit’s the daily training of my company’s dancers.

In this practice, every movement is considered an action, and each action is a manifestation of the self, materialized by a precise intention. To carry out each action, I have developed keen work on the “imaginary body”.

Through organic, sensorial and playful images we connect to our “imaginary body” in order to transform one’s body perception which is often coded in our society and particularly in dance. These various images, often intersect, require the participant to make actions and find their intentions. “Landing with their heart”, “laughing with their pelvis”, etc.

For provoking vitality in our central axis we generate the sensation of continual movement in it by using different dynamics and intensities. We initiate rotation movements around the spine to become more flexible, mobile, and supple. We activate movement paths that start in the center and open outward, reinforcing the connection between the upper and lower body.
We use rebounds, rhythms, and successive actions to find a broader range of movement, energizing relation between body and gravity.

This work gives access to an “internal spiral” that puts the body in asymmetrical situations, often in ‘off balance’, which allows us to create varied trajectories, travel and invest space.
Space becomes a playground; we explore it, modify it, rearrange and invent it.
We welcome here the unexpected, practicing it with joy and enthusiasm.

Practice
offers professional and non-professional dancers tools to connect with their bodies and to meet those of others in a different way, through our body’s creativity.

We practice here to challenge and liberate ourselves, to dare to discover and to take pleasure in moving toward the unknown.
