The CCN of Rillieux-la-Pape occupies a building conceived and built specially for its activities. It was in 2006 that Maguy Marin and her Compagnie (she had been the director of the CCN of Rillieux-la-Pape since 1998), inaugurated this new working space specially constructed by the Parisian architects Patrick Bouchain and Loïc Julienne.
The CCNR is located in the heart of a neighborhood called La Velette, part of the new city, and it has a panoramic view over the valley, the area around Lyon. The distinctive exterior framework of the building and its floors are made of wood, which has some important advantages: it is warm, facilitates the transmission of sound and acoustics, it has clear environmental qualities, and most importantly it gives the building a unique appearance. The building contrasts with those around it, but it nonetheless integrates easily into the urban landscape, a true home for dance, with many openings to the exterior.
